Relentless stalker, day and night,
has hounded me since birth.
Its vigilance beyond restraint,
stalked everywhere about this earth.
More than merely watchful,
this foul entity, a thief,
robbing me incrementally until
I am beggared beyond belief.
It picks my pockets of happiness
leaving behind lint and eliciting despair.
The moment I discern its gossamer trace,
it vanishes as if it was never there.
Yet the weight of it is upon me
reasserting its invisible expiration date.
Insisting its inevitability,
arriving, at times, too early,
but always arriving,
and never too late.
