When I was stationed in Okinawa I was the Road Buyer for the Purchasing and Contracting Officer of my base. That meant being away from any military base at lunchtime, or “chow,” each day as I cruised the island in my little Daihatsu van.

I came to depend on the street vendors for food and developed a fondness for these lovingly prepared lunchboxes. And, oh my goodness, the Yakisoba!
