Funny how you always say,
“that’s not what I meant.”
But those very words
keep coming up
in every single argument.
You keep telling me
I don’t deserve you,
and I think you’re right.
Forgiveness doesn’t mean
poking at old wounds,
when we’re trying to heal,
night after night.
So next time you tell me go
I think I might.
I’m sorry if that seems
a little insensitive,
but I love you enough
to want you to outlive
the bitterness you feel
about what you think I did.
I said I was sorry,
because it was only right,
but next time you say go,
I think I might.
