In finer circles, noblesse oblige,
anonymous philanthropy is not cachet.
Programs ushering change are not endowed,
innovators who break from the crowd.
Helping the least of us is passé.
A hand, not a handout, some would say.
End socialized services, if others get their way.
Upward mobility is not allowed,
in finer circles.
Fire departments, police, public schools go away.
All services socialized with taxes we pay.
Of permanent underclass, they must be proud.
Without a voice, one can’t scream out loud.
Punishment sans crime, some might say,
in finer circles.
