You looked at me
with those
pastel green eyes
from beneath
the tree’s cool shade.
You looked mischievous
and mysterious
as strands of cottonwood
floated down around
you; the streaks of sunlight
crowned your silhouette.
To me you were surreal.
Barefoot, your toes
tickled by the grass
as you swept your leg
back and forth.
And then you smiled,
and I have forgotten
everything since.
