When I was alone
you refused to welcome me
into your embrace

When my stomach growled
you never invited me
to share your banquet

Where I meandered
you did not show me the path
only walked away

Where my heart languished
your rules stood implacably
without compassion

Why have a credo
penciled on a tarnished scroll
crumbling from disuse?

Why argue God’s name?
You can’t love your enemy
who loves your god too.
