Through the struggles
of life’s shocks,
I have become unmoored
from the docks.

That held me above.
in the light.
Pummeled by waves
of black and white

Drifted on the tides of
right and wrong
lamenting all the while
succumbing to the siren song.

Pulled out, then down
by the undertow
my flesh abraded,
raw, from head to toe.

Treading for my very life
amidst an indifferent sea.
Drowning, drowning, drowning…
slowly, in my humanity.
