He departs his
inner sanctum,
passes through
the portal
into the realm of
vulnerability,
and dons a
threatening mask
to deter the
opportunistic predator.
Across his back,
a cloak of strength
to protect him from the
atmosphere,
inclement, uncertain,
at times, unforgiving.
Arriving safely
at his destination,
switching to masks
amiable and benign,
to weather a climate
of torrential
misunderstanding
that we all wear
disguises
for reasons
abstract.
And respect,
compassion,
love and acceptance
have subjective
definitions of
our common
needs.
