Raindrops burst into miniscule cloudlets
after slamming into the baked red clay.
Santa Ana winds blow sirocco fire,
peeling back the mask, blowing it away.

Sores, the tropical forests of the world.
A postdiluvian impoverishment
Soil so leeched of essential minerals
malnourished people in bewilderment.

Left are the future fossilized footprints,
forensic trail of what has come to pass.
Age of Humankind and its legacy,
salting the earth for profit ’til the last.
