To sip from the cup
of my fellow’s approbation,
that is indeed a heady brew.
And one I am leery to pick up,
lest it burst the bubble, isolation,
bend my world entire, askew.
Perhaps better then, anonymity.
Yes, safety to be had in the dark.
I close my eyes, become unseen,
much preferred to mediocrity,
I remember well the childhood lark.
No one asks where I have been.
